Is it dinner or battlefield?
A large business is always done on table
cheers
propose a toast
I toast you.
I drink up you help yourself.
★There are two kinds of dinner in China, private and public. A private dinner is for a family’s get-together or kinds of celebrations of festivals. However, most dinners are for public affair and business. This occasion is as on a battlefield. It is full of competition and traps. Foreigners have to know the routines and rules. Those who don’t know the rules can’t make through or make money.

★Technique: have to learn how to compromise on a public dinner. Whether a large business could be done or not depends on the leader and the customer. Making them comfortable is enough. Remember interest comes first even though you dislike those with whom you’re having dinner very much.

the bill
Take the shout or try to get the bill
to play the host
competition for orders
It's my round.
I'll pick up the tab.

★Principally, the shout belongs to the one who initiates the dinner. It is certain that you will see a few people try their best to get the chance to pay the bill. Many foreigners would feel happy without paying the bill in this situation. Actually, Chinese regard getting to pay the bill as a kind of manners and an honor. If you get the bill, the dinner will be on your treat. People will remember your favor. Some may make use of the moment when they go to the washing room to pay the bill before the dinner is over. Remember to believe in paying in turn instead of Dutch treatment. Chinese can’t accept the way that each pays for himself with a gang of men getting together. In this way you can’t get your business done. So learn to get the bill when you are in China.
