★The price of vegetables throughout China is rising sharply. Vegetables under 3 yuan are hardly available now. Chinese people are always psychologically superior to America, Japan and South Korea with respect to food consumption, which is now stricken by the rising price of vegetables.
Explanations for the rising price of vegetables this year made by all government departments are largely identical but with minor differences, either cold spell in late spring in the north, heavy snow in the northeast, gale in Shandong or drought in the southwest. In brief, a majority of them ascribe it to the nature, which implies that this round of price rising is a short-lived phenomenon caused by weather. As a matter of fact, however, the price of vegetables has risen by 19.6% since January 2009. China’s economy may be on the way of inflation.
